New York, New York...

Hello there friends!

I would just like to recap my day for you folks because it was so wonderful!

So after two purely HELLISH days at the good ol' blue and yellow building, I went into work this morning, very tired and quickly burning out. I said to myself when I walked in that I was going to make it a slow day because the past two days I had worked so extremely hard.

Up until last night, I forgot that today was the day that my dear ol' dad and my brother were going to the city (New York City for all you folks that aren't down with the CT, NY, NJ lingo) and had originally wanted me to come with them, but I had to turn the invite down because I knew this week would be so busy and there wouldn't be an option for me to take time out from work.

So, I talked to my dad this morning while he was on the road and was feeling a little bummed that I couldn't go. Then, Wonderful Yvonne said to me "why aren't you going?" and I proceeded to tell her that I only worked a 4 day week last week and we were so busy this week, blah blah blah. Basically my wonderful coworkers/friends Yvonne and Deana insisted that I go and that they would take care of the boss for me.

So Dad and Tim came and picked me up from work and took me home. I changed and Brie Brie drove us to the train station, so we wouldn't have to pay for parking (not that we would have found a place to park anyway). We hopped on the train and took it in. Now, being that I know the city (again, New York City for those less skilled in our lingo) so well, I acted as the guide for the day. (Before I continue, can I just say that my dad is absolutely adorable. When I told him on the phone that I was going with them, he was like "Good, now I won't get lost because I'll have my own personal guide with me" Soooooo cute!) We walked out of Grand Central and took the walk that I took EVERY SINGLE DAY for 8 months while I was working in the city. We walked down Park Ave. to the building I used to work in. We then cut across and walked down to the Empire State Building and actually went to the top (a first for me). It was so great, although I got really REALLY tired of hearing about "Tony's Audio Tour" anyone that's been up in the past few months know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

After the Empire State Building, we had lunch at Wendy's across the street (Madalyn.. I saw our SUBWAY and got a little teary... ok, maybe not teary... but it did bring about warm tingly feeling inside... MEEEMMOORRIES, FROM THE CORNERS OF MY MINDDDD) From Wendy's, we walked down past Macy's (my dad's a big fan of the Thanksgiving Parade, so it was cool for him to see the painted street) and then up Broadway to Times Square. From Times Square, we walked up to Rockafella Center and saw the tree, went in the NBC Experience and the Metropolitan Museum of Art Shop (fun fun.. I didn't buy anything for all you wondering).

Then we walked over to St. Peter's Cathedral and went in and walked around there a bit, which was beautiful. You don't realize how beautiful of a building it is when you're 17 years old. From there, we walked up to FAO Schwartz (which is still open, unlike what some people are lead to believe, although they changed it BIG TIME! oh, and incase anyone was wondering how much that HUGE elephant and giraffe are.. they're $15,000 each) Then, we walked back to Grand Central and hopped back on the train to come home. I got my Thursday magazines. My brother and I ripped on some celebrities and that was about it.

Now, I'm just sitting here with a beer (because we're out of soda) and watching The Apprentice!

That's my day. It was a great day and I just thought I would share. Hope everyone else had a good day. I shall talk to you all later.

ADIOS!

Yet Another Reason to Move to Canada...

Why are we still living in the U.S.?

Canada court clears way for same-sex marriage law

December 10, 2004

FREE PRESS NEWS SERVICES

TORONTO -- Canada's Supreme Court ruled Thursday that same-sex marriages are allowed under the nation's constitution, clearing the way for Prime Minister Paul Martin and his Liberal Party to move forward with plans to introduce federal legislation to legalize marriage for gays and lesbians.

The top court's finding, which had been expected by legal experts, follows rulings by lower courts in seven Canadian jurisdictions that have said existing marriage laws discriminated against homosexuals.

The court was ruling on the legal question to help it advise the House of Commons before it considered legislation, approved by the federal cabinet last year, to redefine marriage to include gay and lesbian couples.

If approved by a majority of the House of Commons, as expected, Canada would become the third country to embrace marriage by homosexuals and lesbians. Belgium and the Netherlands are the other two.

However, the court said religious officials cannot be forced to perform unions against their beliefs.

Martin said after the ruling that because judges in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and the Yukon already allow gay marriages, it should be approved nationwide.

Martin said his government would introduce a bill shortly after Christmas.

He noted that members of Parliament would be free to vote their conscience, but his cabinet ministers would have to support his bill.

Public opinion in Canada is divided on the matter.

In the United States, a majority of Americans oppose gay marriage, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll taken in November, after constitutional amendments in 11 states to ban same-sex marriage were approved.

Happiness

I just want to write this quick blog to talk about happiness in my life and all that I'm surrounded by.

The best birthday present I could have ever gotten is to see all the people in my life that I care about happy. I saw happiness when Brie got to watch me open my gifts and see how much I loved them. I saw happiness as Brie, Amy and Pam watched me bit the crap out of a Spongebob pinata. I saw the happiness that Amy and Pam bring each other and I know the happiness that Brie and I bring to each other's lives. I think what fills me with the joy the most was what I witnessed last night. A good friend has been in pain lately and it was the type that kills me because I know there is nothing I can do to alleviate it at all. On my nightly stroll through the blogs I read, I came upon some pictures that exuded PURE happiness. To know that this friend who was once in pain was profoundly happy lifted my heart like I can't explain. So to this friend I say, "you have no idea what it means to me to see you in so much pain just a couple of weeks ago as you sat here on my couch, and to know see you so overjoyed because of one person. It has given me a new perspective on words, because I know that it is on words which your foundation with this person is based." And to the person that is the source of my friend's happiness, I say "thank you for being such a wonderful person and for having the ability to have such a profound impact on a person."

That's all I have for now. Time for work!

What up G??!

Hello all my bloggy friends. I have had many requests to blog and let all you wonderful peeps what's been going on. So here I am.

What's been going on lately? WORK...

All I do is work, but at least I can say that I have a job to go to everyday and work with great people that make the day go by faster.

Tomorrow is a big day for us IKEA folk. The almighty Ingvar will be in our store tomorrow. Now, you people must understand how big this is. Ingvar, for anyone who doesn't know, is the founder and owner of IKEA. In fact, IKEA stands for Ingvar Kamprad (his name) Elmtaryd (the farm on which he grew up) Aggunard (the village in which his farm was located). Now, Ingvar is 78 years young and he will be entering our wonderful New Haven store at 5:30am at which time, he will go down into our warehouse and go pallet by pallet and inspect all of our stock to make sure its up to his standard. THEN, he will climb into one of our delivery trucks and see how our after sales people packed it. THEN, he will tour the store. THEN, he will talk to coworkers and customers and ask them questions about IKEA. Folks, this is a HUGGGEE deal. He only visits 15 stores per year. Mind you, we have over 200 stores worldwide. On top of that, he will probably never be back in New Haven ever again, and on top of that, our store manager who has been with the company for 15 years has never met the man. This is a really huge thing for us and am I working? NOPE!!! I will be stress-free tomorrow. Although, I will make an appearance in the morning.

So the news as it stands now, from what I understand, there have been many many talks of making me a permanent coworker, which means... BENEFITS. I was told today that there was a discussion about it. Everyone, from what I am told by a nameless source, feels that I am too valuable to lose. The question now is $$$. So we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll get a wonderful Christmas present and we can move out of this closet that we live in.

In other news... MY BIRTHDAY IS ON MONDAY!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYY. I happen to share my birthday with a good friend who frequents this blog often. Even if she is 3 minutes older. WHATEVER!!! It's all good. I plan to enjoy my birthday with the love of my life and relax.

Well folks, that's pretty much all I have for now. Hope this satisfies your appetite. I will blog more soon. I PROMISE!

Later chickens!
