Sorrow...

It seems like people around me are suffering in one way or another. Here's the latest:

As many of you know, my brother went through a pretty messy divorce recently. It was made final a couple of months ago and he was finally able to start to get on with his life. Shortly before the divorce finalized, Tim started talking to this girl that he met online. I have no idea where or how he met her, but apparently from the first moment they first talked, he was smitten. They spoke for months both online and over the phone.

She went to Nigeria for some reason, for what I am still unsure, but I can only assume that it has something to do with work. Her name is Cassaleigh. My brother affectionately called her "Cass." So, she came home for a short period, she lived in Toronto, only to take off for Nigeria yet again. This time, she had a very special event to come home to. She was flying into Toronto on Friday (today) and was scheduled to meet my brother face to face for the first time on Saturday (tomorrow) in Syracuse. It's the most central location for both of them.

Tim got an email just yesterday from Doug, Cass' father, Cassaleigh had a brain anuerysm while in Nigeria and has passed away. My brother's world came crashing down around him instantly. After a life of so much struggle and heartache and pain, he honestly and truly believed that he found his one true soulmate in Cass.

My mom forwarded an email that Doug sent to Tim and he told my brother that he had realized that he was now part of their family. He is sending Tim a special horseshoe necklace that she always wore that has the birthstones of the entire family on it, but not before he adds my brother's to it. Additionally, the family has decided to have Cassaleigh creamated and spread her ashes around Nigeria where she spent much of her time while not in Toronto. They ultimately have decided to let my brother he the one to spread the ashes when he is ready.

My heart is breaking for him. He has endured so many struggles, faced so many demons in his life and still continues to.

So that is what's going on right now. I ask all of you to please keep Tim, Cass and her family in your prayers.
